Grooming

Do you struggle with giving your pet a bath? The Madison Animal Hospital offers limited grooming for our current dog and cat patients. We offer baths, full body brush-outs, nail trims, utility clips, mat removal, and lion-cuts (cats). We do not do show cuts or complex clips. For these types of cuts we will gladly refer you to a professional groomer.

We offer a broad spectrum of shampoos and crème rinses ranging from salon quality Les Poochs, considered by top breeders and styling professionals to be the finest shampoo in the world, to various medicated, moisturizing, and hypoallergenic shampoos. If your pet has a diagnosed skin condition that requires a medicated shampoo, or if you have a particular shampoo preference, please discuss this with the groomer during admission. The groomer is not able to diagnose skin diseases. If you suspect your pet has a skin disease, please make an appointment with the veterinarian.

Groomings are typically done in the morning (usually Tuesdays) and take anywhere from 30 minutes for a simple bath to more than 2 hours for large cuts. Because of the length of time needed to dry their coats, most pets will not be ready until early to mid-afternoon. Grooming your dog has many benefits. Not only will they look better, but they will also feel better as well. When a dog is brushed all the dead hair is removed and eliminates many of the bad odors. It may also reduce the need for scratching and itching.

The first step is to clip and/or brush, as well as clean the ears and trim the nails.

After brushing/clipping we then shampoo and condition the coat.

We finish up with the final clip or brush, and then to the dryer.
